Clutch & Gearbox — frequently asked questions
What are the signs my clutch is failing?
A high biting point, engine revs rising without speed increasing (slipping), juddering when pulling away, a heavy or spongy pedal, or a burning smell. Any of these mean it's time for a check before you're stranded.
Do I need a new flywheel with my clutch?
On many modern diesels and turbo petrols the dual-mass flywheel wears with the clutch and should be inspected during the job. We only replace it if it's actually worn — and we show you the part.
How long does a clutch replacement take?
Most clutch replacements are completed within one working day. Bigger jobs involving the flywheel or gearbox repair may take longer — your written quote includes a realistic timescale.
My gear change is stiff or crunchy — is that the clutch or the gearbox?
It can be either (or the hydraulics between them). We diagnose the actual cause first so you only pay to fix what's broken.
